Pronounced, "LOO-ne-sa", is the Gaelic festival signifying beginning the harvest, celebrating abundance and baking bread! Celebrate this day, August 1st with dancing, harvesting (recognizing your gifts) and feeling into Mother Earth with your hands and feet.

Here at Fat Hen Farm, we are harvesting an abundance of kale, lemon cucumbers, zucchini, arugula, beets, basil, onions, garlic, lettuces, leeks, squashes, and more. Pumpkins and butternut squash are growing and our hens are laying beautiful eggs. To have my hands and feet in and on this earth has changed my entire perspective. I literally am more grounded, calm and at peace and see how each thing we do here affects the next. Using the organic horse and chicken manure provides a deep sense of sustainability. Watching the hummingbirds and butterflies, birds and bees reminds me of Nature's creatures that live in harmony. The marigolds in the raised garden beds are doing a wonderful job of fending off all little creatures from the plants. Everything has its place.

Where can you plant your hands and feet into the earth? Go out and find a way to do that, whether it be in your backyard, at the beach, in the forest, or on your patio in a potted flower, just get dirty.  Let your kids play in the dirt, feel the soil, smell it, and enjoy it.
